"Walking with my foot drop required so much energy that I always looked for a place to sit when I went out with my family. Now I can actually take my doctor's advice and take more walks."

The WalkAide System
"WalkAide is a FDA approved medical device that leverages functional electrical stimulation (FES) to improve the walking ability of people living with foot drop.
Developed by a team of researchers at a major university, WalkAide simulates the typical nerve-to-muscle signals in the leg and foot, which cause the foot to lift at the appropriate time in the walking cycle. This results in a smoother, more natural, and safer stepping motion.
Many people who try WalkAide experience immediate and substantial improvement in their walking ability, which increases their mobility, functionality and independence.
Alliance Orthopedic Labs is a certified WalkAide provider. We like it for many reasons:
- it is customized for your individual walking pattern,
- it is small, discreet and comfortable,
- it is easy to use, and
- it keeps you moving!
Is WalkAide Right for You?
The WalkAide system is indicated for patients who exhibit foot drop caused by upper motor neuron injuries or central nervous system disorders. If you experience foot drop due to any of the conditions listed below, then WalkAide may be right for you.

- Stroke (CVA)
- Cerebral Palsy (CP)
- Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury

In October, 2011, researchers from the National Institutes for Health (NIH) presented a strudy that show the WalkAide System successfully improves mobility by significantly increasing ankle control during walking in children with foot drop due to cerebral palsy. For more information, click here.
